The Accounting Technician Level (ATEC I) program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in basic accounting and business principles. It is an entry-level qualification under the NBAA professional accounting framework in Tanzania.


Students learn essential knowledge and skills / Subject in:
  1. BookKeeping and Accounts
  2. Elements of Business Mathematics and Statistics
  3. Introduction to Information and Communication Technology
  4. Business Communication Skills

Entry Requirements:

A prospective candidate seeking to register for the Accounting Technician Level I examinations must show evidence of being a holder of any of the following qualifications:


  1. Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with at least three credit passes and a pass grade in Mathematics and English Language OR
  2. National Business Examinations (NABE) Stage I and II with at least four passes plus a Certificate of Secondary Education OR
  3. Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least one principal pass and a subsidiary in relevant subjects but must have at least a pass in English and Mathematics at O-level secondary education OR
  4. A one year certificate from recognized Institution with a pass grade in English and Mathematics at “O” level prior to obtaining such a certificate.
  5. Such other certificates as may be recognized by the Board from time to time

The Accounting Technician Level (ATEC II) program builds on the foundation gained in ATEC I. It focuses on developing a deeper understanding of accounting practices, business law, taxation, and financial management. The goal is to prepare students for mid-level accounting responsibilities and professional progression toward higher qualifications like CPA.

  2. Principles of Cost Accounting
  3. Elements of Commercial Knowledge and Taxation
  4. Accounting for Public Sector and Cooperatives

Entry Requirements:

A prospective candidate seeking to register for the Accounting Technician Level II examinations must show evidence of being a holder of any one of the following qualifications:


  1. Accounting Technical Level I Statement of Success Letter
  2. Advanced Level Secondary School Certificate for students who had pursues commercial biased combination. But must have two principal passes.
  3. Certificate in Accounting - (NTA Level 4)
  4. A two-year diploma not majoring in accounting – (NTA Level 6).
  5. Advanced Level Secondary Education Certificate Holders who had pursued commercial subjects and scored pass grade in (Bookkeeping and Commerce).

The Foundation Level, also known as the Knowledge and Skills Level, is the next stage after completing the Accounting Technician (ATEC) programs. It forms the base of the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification under NBAA Tanzania.

  4. Cost Accounting
  5. Business Law
  6. Business Economics

Entry Requirements:

A prospective candidate seeking to register for the Professional Examinations must show evidence of being a holder of any of the following qualifications:


  1. NBAA Accounting Technician Certificate (ATEC ).
  2. A two-year Diploma in Accounting or Accounting and Finance – (NTA level 6).
  3. A degree from a recognized University or Institution of higher learning (Non-Accounting)
  4. Exemption shall be considered on subject to subject basis depending on candidate’s specialty.

The Intermediate Level—also known as the Skills and Analysis Level—builds on the knowledge gained in the Foundation stage. It aims to develop advanced analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in accounting, finance, and business management.

  4. Public Finance and Taxation
  5. Performance Management
  6. Management, Governance and Ethics

Entry Requirements:

A prospective candidate seeking to register for the Professional Examinations must show evidence of being a holder of any of the following qualifications:


  1. Holder of NBAA Foundation Level Statement of Success Letter
  2. A degree majoring in Accounting or Accounting and Finance from a recognized University or Institution of higher learning.

The Final Level is the highest stage of the NBAA professional accounting qualification. It focuses on applying advanced accounting knowledge, critical thinking, and professional judgment to real-life business and financial situations. Students are expected to demonstrate leadership, ethics, and strategic decision-making skills at this level.

  4. Advanced Taxation

Entry Requirements:

A prospective candidate seeking to register for the Professional Examinations must show evidence of being a holder of any of the following qualifications:


  1. Holder of NBAA Intermediate Level Statement of Success letter.

The Professional Diploma in Internal Auditing (PDIA) – Level 1 is an introductory program designed to equip students with basic knowledge and practical skills in internal auditing and financial control systems. It is the first stage in the PDIA pathway recognized by the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) of Tanzania.


Entry Requirements:
  1. Holder of PDIA Level 1 Statement of success i.e. a Candidate who successfully passed PDIA Level 1 examinations

The Professional Diploma in Internal Auditing (PDIA) – Level 2 builds upon the foundation established in Level 1. It focuses on developing deeper knowledge, analytical ability, and practical competence in internal auditing, risk management, and financial compliance.


Entry Requirements:
  1. Holder of PDIA Level 1 Statement of success i.e. a Candidate who successfully passed PDIA Level 1 examinations

The Diploma in IPSAS program is designed to equip accounting professionals and public finance officers with the knowledge and skills required to apply International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) in preparing and reporting government and public sector financial statements.


Entry Requirements:
  1. Holders of Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certificate or its equivalent or holders of Postgraduate Degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax or related.

The Certificate in IPSAS Course is an introductory program that provides learners with a clear understanding of the basic concepts and principles of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS). It is designed for individuals working in or aspiring to work in government institutions, NGOs, or any organization that manages public funds.


Entry Requirements:
  1. Holders of ATEC II, Diploma in Accounting, Bachelor degree in: - Accounting, Finance or other related business subjects.
